SNOW EMERGENCY BEGINS 12PM SUNDAY

SNOW EMERGENCY
A snow emergency will be in effect beginning 12 PM on Sunday, January 19th as a severe winter storm heads our way which is expected to bring several inches of snow accumulations.  Township crews will be working hard to clear any accumulated snow on residential streets.  Crews from PennDOT and PECO will be working to keep state roads clear of snow and utilities in operation.  More information about how we respond to a snow storm can be found here.

Outage information can be reported to PECO, Comcast, or Verizon.

Below are from frequently asked questions about winter storms:

What does Middletown Township do when it snows?
Public Works crews apply salt brine to roadways before, and plow roadways during and after snow storms. Emergency services continue to respond to calls.

When will my street get plowed?
Streets are plowed throughout the storm. Snow is cleared within 12 hours after the end of the storm. State roads are plowed by PennDOT.

Which neighborhoods get plowed first?
Crews are deployed to assigned areas all over the Township. All plows work together to clear snow at the same time.

Do I need to move my car?
Yes. Cars must be off roadways within one hour after the beginning of a storm, and must remain off the road until at least 12 hours after a storm.

Who is responsible for clearing sidewalks of snow?
Sidewalks in front of homes must be cleared by homeowners within 24 hours after the end of the storm.

Staying home and off roadways is the best way to endure a snow storm. After a storm, clear walkways of snow to prevent injury.

If a snow plow hits a mailbox, please contact Geri Anderson in Public Works for assistance.

Adopt A Road

Middletown Township has established an "Adopt A Road" program to promote the beautification and maintenance of Township-owned roadways and to provide for the ongoing removal of rubbish, garbage and debris from the roadways and rights of ways of the Township. This program is administered by the Public Works Department.

Anyone can volunteer to Adopt A Road; Businesses, Groups, Families and/or Individuals are encouraged to participate. Township roadways along greenbelts and neighborhood parks are just some of the areas that need regular attention. Contact the Public Works Department at 215-943-2900 and stake your claim for the Township roadway you would like to "Adopt." A sign will be posted along the area you've adopted to recognize your participation and dedication to this important community initiative.

Recycling Used Motor Oil

The Public Works building uses a state of the art oil burner that recycles used motor oil to heat the building during the winter months. The public is encouraged to drop off used motor oil that will be recycled for use by the oil-fired system. Used motor oil can be dropped off every Monday (except for legal holidays) between the hours of 8:00am to 2:00pm at the Public Works Garage located at 700 Veterans Highway, Levittown, PA 19056.

Used Tire Collection Days

Used tires are collected at the Public Works Garage located at 700 Veterans Highway, Levittown, PA 19056 on the first Saturday in June and the first Saturday in December during the hours of 8:00am to 2:00pm. There is a small fee for this service.

Fees:
$2.00 for passenger cars and light trucks (for up to 10 tires; then $4.00 for each additional tire.)
$6.00 for large truck and equipment tires
$2.00 for rim removal

The Department of Public Work has a regular street sweeping program to control and remove roadside debris. Township-owned streets are swept twice a year, in Spring and Fall. Municipal Parking lots are swept on a bi-monthly basis.
