With an active winter hitting our area this season, homeowners are reminded to keep any sidewalks on their property clear of snow and ice. Homeowners are required by ordinance to clean off sidewalks within 24 hours after the end of a winter storm or after the formation of ice. Sidewalks must be cleared to the surface for a width not less than 36". When clearing snow and ice, please remember that it cannot be deposited into the street. Homeowners with high-traffic sidewalks or with sidewalks near schools are advised to routinely check their sidewalks to assure pedestrian safety. To prevent the recurrence of ice on walkways, homeowners should consider applying ice mitigation materials, such as salt.
